The Palimpsest
Project type
Installation
Date
Exhibited May - July 25
Location
Studio 11, Regent Street, Plymouth
The Palimpsest explores the relationship between memory, nostalgia and the phenomenology of experience. By enveloping the space in fabric it creates an immersive environment that mirrors the way memories are often tucked away preserved yet distant. The fabric acts as both barrier and portal, inviting reflection on how we relate to the past.
The chair, draped in fabric printed with the remnants of the artist's childhood personifies memory, while the second chair offers the viewer the opportunity to confront their own recollections, fostering shared engagement with time and personal history.
The installation invites viewers to engage with space and remembrance not as fixed concepts but as lived, sensory experiences, suggesting memory is not merely recalled, but felt, held and shaped by place.
